New Olympic Sports

posted 1 week ago

My wife and I invented a few winter Olympic sports last night, we’re hoping they make it into the mix for 2014.

  • Ice HORSE
Played similarly to HORSE in basketball, all of the figure skaters are on the ice at the same time. The first does a trick and then each has to replicate the trick until they spell HORSE. I picture “triple lutz, off the boards, headspin to splits” types of tricks being invented.
  • Short Track Ice Dancing
Since figure skating is so dang boring, why not throw in the excitement of short track racing? Each lap you’ve got to throw a spin or whatever else it is they do. Definitely no helmets on this one.
  • Ski Jump Biathlon
Targets are suspended above the hill and the jumper must shoot the target while in the air. The score is a combination of accuracy and distance.

So, what have you got to add?

When I shoot an event, before I start deleting and editing, I like to take all the photos and flip through them quickly to see the event as a whole. I recently started making videos of it. So here is Tumblr Reads at Housing Works.

This is really cool. Something like this shouldn’t actually work, you’d think it would be all disjointed, but this is slick. Nice work. I think you just invented something there.

So, about a year ago I registered dontthinkrun.com and posted a few Nike+ runs. Lots of people say they like to use their running time to think, while I don’t want to think about crap, I just want to run. (I also thought it would make a good place for a game I haven’t made yet in which you have no weapons and super fast zombies chase you, so the entire purpose is simply to run quickly, avoid obstacles and don’t get eaten). Anyway. About a week ago I see a banner ad from Nike with their new running slogan - “Don’t Think. Run.” I figure it was a one-off web promotion until I hit up a Nike store in Orlando and BOOM, it is all over the place.
I’m thinking of sending them a Cease & Desist. I will indicate that clearly they are creating confusion with my own running-based website and that I am entitled to damages caused by said confusion. Pretty sure it is going to work. I mean, what could go wrong?
